Agile, Actionable Architecture

Scott A. Bernard, U.S. Federal Chief Enterprise Architect, Office of Management and Budget

For an enterprise-wide architecture to be valuable in large, complex organizations it must be actionable and agile when being implemented.  Actionability centers on scalability and solving key business problems, while agility centers on rapid, modular design delivery.  Success in creating an agile, actionable EA program cannot be achieved without strong support from organizational leadership, line of business management, and experts in each architectural sub-domain (strategy, business, data, applications, infrastructure, and security).  Lastly, the EA program must provide stakeholders with an easy-to-use online repository of design and analysis documentation that promotes solution re-use and shared services.
