Accomplishments have led to invitations to speak internationally in venues that include the White House Conference Center, The World CIO Forum, The Office of the CIO of the U.S. Department of Defense, The National Association of State CIOs, and many other professional organizations and corporations. Received invitations to serve on the boards and committees of several international professional organizations and journals. Accomplishments have received international attention and have been the subject of several magazine articles, press releases, podcasts, blogs, and television interviews.

Built and directed a new innovative enterprise architecture center with a dual education and research mission. Raised over $25 million in grants, cash, hardware, and software to support the educational and research missions of the center. Built an international membership base for the center consisting of over seventy leading corporations, government bodies, and professional associations. The center consists of twenty seven core and affiliated faculty from several countries. Received the NPA Career Achievement Award for efforts related to the building of this unique center and associated educational initiatives.

Led efforts to build a first-of-its-kind, online professional masters degree program in Enterprise Architecture and served as the program director. Led all aspects of the program, from the design and development of the professional masters program and associated courses, to the recruiting and marketing for the program. The program has received international recognition from numerous organizations. Led efforts to build a first-of-its-kind undergraduate enterprise architecture degree program. Designed, developed, and taught a number of professional education and senior executive education programs. Many of these professional education courses involved partnerships with leading corporations such as Gartner, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Oracle, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, DHL, and others. Launched a new undergraduate student interest club in enterprise architecture with a $25,000 corporate gift. Led undergraduate honors thesis projects related to enterprise architecture. Chaired and served on numerous masters and PhD thesis committees.

Founded the Federation of Enterprise Architecture Professional Organizations (FEAPO), a unique international organization established to foster collaboration and communication between the many professional organizations in the enterprise architecture field. FEAPO consists of twenty-two leading professional organizations and has received international acclaim for its contribution to the field. Served as the elected president of this organization. Led efforts to build an international faculty community in enterprise architecture currently consisting of universities from over fifteen countries.

Led cutting-edge research initiatives in enterprise architecture value measurement and enterprise architecture framework development and usage. Formed research collaborations with professional organizations and universities from around the globe. Invited to create an enterprise architecture special interest group and associated set of educational materials for the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Currently leading efforts to create a new enterprise architecture research journal and an associated conference in collaboration with IEEE, ACM, and the Open Group. Leading an enterprise architecture career path development research project in conjunction with the National Defense University and U.S. Department of Defense. Invited to serve on the professional education standards committee of the International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3), a prestigious international consortium affiliated with the United Nations.

Received numerous invitations internationally to speak about the center, the process by which it was developed and funded, and associated programs and initiatives. Speaking venues included The White House Conference Center, The Word CIO Forum, The British Computer Society, The Gartner Symposium, and many others. Invited to serve on several international professional boards and committees. The Center for Enterprise Architecture has been the topic of several magazine articles, press releases, podcasts, blogs, and television interviews and has attracted strong international interest.

Initiated and directed the creation of a new inter-college research and education group. Formed an advisory group for the initiative consisting of leading corporations, government organizations, and industry associations. The initial advisory group contained over one hundred individuals representing fifty-two organizations and seven countries. Raised over $500,000 in cash for the start-up phase of the initiative. The Enterprise Architecture Initiative focused on four primary areas: (1) creation of a new undergraduate degree program, (2) creation of a new online professional masters program, (3) creation of a new enterprise architecture research center, and (4) creation of a portfolio of professional development courses in the area of enterprise architecture. Member of the Board of Trustees for the Center for the Advancement of the Enterprise Architecture Profession and Co-chair of the Academic Alliance Committee for the Special Interest Group on Enterprise Architecture for the Industry Advisory Council of the US Federal Government.

Managed corporate relationships and investigated innovative methods of corporate engagement in applied research projects and curricular initiatives. Evolved the corporate engagement model for the IST enterprise integration option, through funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), to include multi-corporation projects and partnerships with international corporations and universities. Conducted research to create a transferable model of innovative, real-world education related to enterprise systems design, development, implementation, and integration. Taught senior-level capstone enterprise integration, enterprise architecture, enterprise storage, information technology consulting, and project management courses. Developed new curricular materials for enterprise integration (through funding from the NSF).

Lead corporately-funded research efforts in the following areas: enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation best practices, enterprise storage & information management architecture design, risk analysis of enterprise systems integration projects, and service-oriented architecture modeling and risks.

Architect of an innovative IT consulting curricular track, and secured corporate funding for developing the track totaling over $300,000. Developed a student-consultant mentoring program with Accenture. Conducted a wide variety of student-based IT projects with corporate clients as part of a new IT capstone-consulting course. Long-term corporate partnerships were initiated through the project process that evolved to include student placements, grants, donations of cash, hardware and software, joint research projects, course sponsorship, and joint conference presentations. Secured funding for a student enterprise systems architecture club and served as club faculty advisor. Sponsored student entrepreneurial independent study projects where students were given the guidance, funding, and support needed to develop and implement a startup business.

Recipient of the faculty and student nominated IST Faculty Member of the Year Award (2004) and the George McMurtry Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award (2004) (nominated three years). Managed rapid growth and change as the company grew from eleven to one hundred and twenty people located in five cities within four months. Manage a staff of fifteen and an annual budget of $8 million. Directed the build out of over 60,000 square feet for the corporate network operations center and office space. Scope of responsibility included directing the budgeting, planning, and implementation of all corporate information systems. Fully accountable for overall strategy for technology acquisition and integration, vendor selection and negotiation, technology forecasting, workload planning, project budgeting and administration, software and hardware, disaster & recovery, system software support, financial and administrative affairs, training and support, and daily system operations. Promoting Technology Adoption for Progress, Appalachian Regional Commission, 2004 Principle investigator on a one-semester grant of $10,000 to study issues related to technology support communities in Central Pennsylvania.

Cyber Security Grant Program, Pittsburgh Digital Greenhouse, Inc., 2004 Principle investigator on a one-year grant of $40,000. Supported the development of a wireless applications research and development project.

NSA Technology Management for Executives Program, The National Security Agency, 2004 Principle investigator on a $75,000 grant to design, develop, and implement a three-day IT strategic management course for IT executives within the National Security Agency.

Wireless Usage in Campus Environments, AT&T Wireless, 2004 Principle investigator on a two-year grant totaling $40,000. Supported the research, design, and development of wireless applications for higher education as part of a multi-year project.

Wireless Networking Technology Evaluation, Strategic Communications Services, Inc., 2004 Principle investigator on a one-year grant totaling $35,000. Supported the testing and evaluation of pre-release wireless networking equipment.

Consulting Track Research Support, META Group, Inc., 2004 Principle investigator on an annual grant of a full subscription to META Group's IT research library. Annual value of the subscription was $115,000.

Project Support Grant, IBM, 2004 Principle investigator on a grant of middleware, wireless application development software, training, and consulting time, valued at $650,000, for use in systems integration courses and projects.

Corporate Intranet Research, Design, and Development, Computer Aid, Inc., 2003-2004 Principle investigator on a one-year grant totaling $50,000. Supported design and development of the company's corporate intranet as part of a multi-year project.

Storage Networking Curricular Track Sponsorship, Hewlett-Packard Company, 2003 Principle investigator on a $200,000 grant for sponsorship and support of information management and storage networking curricular initiatives. Support consisted of hardware, software, and financial support.

Program Innovation Grant, Penn State Continuing and Distance Education, 2003 Principle investigator on a one-year grant totaling $15,000. Supported the development of a systems integration certificate program for IT professionals.

Virtual Team Infrastructure Support, Electronics for Imaging, Inc., 2003 Principle investigator on a grant of group communications hardware and software, valued at $15,000, for use in virtual teaming projects.

Stay and Invent the Future, Team Pennsylvania Foundation, 2003 Principle investigator on a one-year grant totaling $75,000. Supported the expansion of experiential, real-world curricular components initiated under a previous Team PA grant awarded in 2002. Also supported the development of an online IT resource portal to support real world, student-based IT project teams.

Stay and Invent the Future, Team Pennsylvania Foundation, 2002 Principle investigator on a one-year grant totaling $110,000. Supported the creation of experiential curricular components involving Pennsylvania companies. The grant also supported extended student internship opportunities with Pennsylvania companies.

Information Technology Workforce Development, Pennsylvania Department of Education, 1999 Principle investigator on a two-year grant totaling $750,000. Supported creation of innovative, real-world experiential curricular components for use in a newly created IT curriculum. The grant also supported the creation of IT facilities needed to support the experiential curricular components. This award was the third largest in Pennsylvania and involved more external partnering organizations than any other competing institution.
